Polyethylene Pipe & Fittings

Polyethylene piping has become the choice of the leading contractors in the geothermal industry because of its flexibility, corrosion resistance, and fusability. The product has proven to perform well under all temperatures and conditions associated with geothermal loop applications. Part of the unfailing reliability results from the method of pipe joining called thermal socket fusion. As a bonus, the low cost and long service life of this product has made it a perfect fit for the cost conscious consumer.

The high density, heat fusable coils are available in a variety of diameters and lengths to fit your needs.  The typical sizes available are 125 PSI and 160 PSI.  Many of our customers use this pipe for closed horizontal and vertical earthloops where high quality and good heat transfer are paramount. In ice rinks and curling rinks, this product has proven to be ideal for brine distribution to create ice surfaces. The piping has also been very suitable in closed pond loops for geothermal systems.

Being flexible and heat fusable, the straight lengths of piping have made interior piping of closed loop systems a snap for the installer. For a neat installation, the straight lengths are ideal.

Common Misconceptions

There are some common misconceptions about pipe that need to be corrected:

  • Some Ontario pipe suppliers have said their pipe is CSA approved or CSA approved for geothermal application. This is not correct in most instances. Only pipe with the CSA logo (see right) on it is certified pipe. It does not matter that the pipe has CSA B137.1 or CSA C448 printed on it, without the logo it is uncertified.

  • Pipe for geothermal applications (high density polyethylene 3408 resin) should meet the requirements of the CSA B137.1 standard. Both the C448 and B137.1 standards allow for virgin regrind to be added in the manufacturing process. Virgin regrind has been used for years with no problems due to this regrind.

If someone disputes any of the above, they should call technical services at CSA (866-797-4272.) Responding to our competitors' perceived marketing advantages, our pipe has these new features:

  • CSA certified pipe to standard B137.1 (we have the logo)
  • CSA certified pipe with no regrind (0%) added
  • 60 year limited warranty on the pipe, provided by the pipe manufacturer
